Phantom

Nike kontroles atbilde Predator

Phantom ir Nike kontroles silo — pretsvars ātrajam Mercurial — veidots ap saķerīgu, pārklātu virsu (tagad Gripknit) un pagriezieniem draudzīgu pamatni radošajam spēles vadītājam, nevis sprinterim. Phantom Luna paplašinājums atnesa to pašu kontroles tehnoloģiju uz sievietēm pielāgotas kurpes pamatnes, ko pārstāv tādas spēlētājas kā Alexia Putellas.

Phantom — vēsture

Katra butes paaudze secībā — kas mainījās, kurš tajās spēlēja, un fotogrāfija, kur pieejama brīvi licencēta. Paaudžu apraksti pagaidām ir angliski.

2018
Phantom VSN (Vision)

The control half of Nike's 2018 reset. Its headline trick is the Ghost-lace system: the laces hide under a flap of Flyknit, so the whole front of the boot is one clean, textured striking surface instead of a row of laces, with a large textured pad sitting right in the passing area. Inside is the Quadfit mesh — a stretchy inner bootie that wraps the foot so the boot feels locked-on from the very first wear, with almost no breaking-in.

Nike retired two older lines — the Magista (control) and the Hypervenom (finishing) — and rebuilt both as one family called Phantom. The Vision (VSN) carried the control idea the Magista had stood for: touch, passing and dribbling as the whole point.

2019
Phantom VNM (Venom)

The finishing half, launched alongside the Vision. Where the Vision was built for control, the Phantom Venom (VNM) was shaped for power and swerve. Nike pushed the laces off to the side and covered them so a bigger, cleaner strike zone sat over the ball's sweet spot, and textured the upper where the foot meets the ball to grip it for extra spin.

It replaced the Hypervenom, Nike's old striker's boot. For a season the Phantom ran as two boots at once — Vision for the creators, Venom for the finishers — before Nike merged them into a single boot in 2020.

2020
Phantom GT

The merger, and the boot's biggest idea. Nike folded the Vision and Venom back into one boot — the Phantom GT, for "Generative Texture". Working from Nike Sport Research Lab data on exactly how the ball meets the boot when you pass, dribble and shoot, designers grew a texture pattern and moulded it INTO the Flyknit upper rather than sticking it on top — so it cannot peel off — placing grip precisely where each kind of touch happens. The off-centre, covered lacing carried over from the Venom.

Making and selling two boots for two kinds of player is costly and confusing. The GT's pitch was that a single boot could do both control and finishing, with the texture doing the work the two separate uppers used to.

2021
Phantom GT2

The second-generation Phantom GT. Nike kept the Generative Texture idea and reworked the fit and the layout of the textured zones — tuning the boot rather than reinventing it. It is the normal second step in a Nike silo: the first version proves the idea, the second sands off its rough edges.

Phantom GX

A new upper material. Nike replaced the printed texture with Gripknit — an exclusive yarn coated in TPU that, melted to the right temperature, comes out grippy, flexible and slightly tacky (Nike compares it to a fingerprint) for sharper control. The grip is weatherised into the knit itself, so the touch stays consistent whether the pitch is muddy or baking, with no separate waterproof skin added on top. Underneath sits an agility plate with 13 studs, five of them star-shaped, built for quick cuts.

The Phantom's whole promise is a clean, predictable touch. Gripknit chased that through the material of the upper rather than a texture printed onto it.

Phantom Luna

The Phantom split in two again — and one half, the Phantom Luna, was Nike's first boot designed women-first. After more than two years working with female footballers, Nike rebuilt the traction from scratch: research shows women are three to five times more likely than men to tear the ACL in the knee, and how a boot grips the turf during sharp turns is part of that. The Luna's stud pattern is tuned so a player can dig in and change direction without the boot catching and sticking. It shares the Gripknit upper with the GX; the visible difference is the higher collar.

Football boots had always been designed on men's feet and men's movement, then shrunk for women. The Luna started from the women's game instead — Nike's "For Her, By Her" boot — though it fits and suits male players too.

2024
Phantom GX II

The second Gripknit generation. Nike kept the two-collar line-up the GX and Luna established — a low-cut version and a high-collar version sharing the same Gripknit technology — and refined the upper and the fit. By now the Phantom's identity had settled: the control-and-precision boot, defined by the grippy Gripknit touch rather than by a printed texture.

2025
Phantom 6

The current generation, and the first to drop the letters for a plain number. The upper is "Tuned Gripknit", a refined version of the grippy yarn aimed at pinpoint strikes, over an improved Cyclone 360 plate built for aggressive, unexpected changes of direction. Nike built it from data gathered from players at every level who, above all, wanted a boot that helped them take — and score — more shots.

Six generations in, the Phantom stopped being sold as two competing ideas (control versus finishing) and became one: the boot for precise attacking — creating chances and scoring — for women's and men's players alike.
